Modern Railroad Steam Train View Yesterday

Marvelous photographs from 1930 to 1950 illustrate the premier railroads of southeastern United States during the last decades of steam power. Images of such railways as the Southern; Seaboard; Atlantic Coast Line; Louisville & Nashville; Richmond, Fredericksburg & Potomac; and more are accompanied by extensive captions identifying the scenes depicted and providing technical information about the equipment featured. A series of maps round out a nostalgic package that recalls an era not so far removed from modern railroading.

Illustrations of historic railroad engines range from the groundbreaking steam-powered locomotives of the early 1800s to the modern Acela Experess, America's first high-speed train. Models include Trevithick's Locomotive (1803-04); the English "Stourbridge Lion" (1829); the "Broadway Limited" (1914); "The Super Chief" (1946); the "Bullet" train (1964); and many others. Each of the 44 illustrations is accompanied by an informative caption.

Omaha Zoo Railroad - The Omaha Zoo Railroad (OZRR) is the name of the narrow gauge steam train that carries visitors around the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha, Nebraska. The train stops at two stations within the world-class zoo, and also makes a stop at the zoo's Pachyderm Hill exhibit, where guests can exit and re-board at a later time.
